We Were the Wild Hunt by Myna Chang

I’ve realized recently how important it is to share short works — poems, creative non fiction, flash CNF — that I’ve read and been bowled over by. The audience for a lot of short literary work is narrow, and can always do with being boosted.

“We Were the Wild Hunt” is a short flash creative nonfiction piece by Myna Chang that was an easy first choice. Published by the literary magazine CRAFT, this short piece is simply perfect: the right length, the right tone, the right perspective, and it sparks with magic and the trauma at its heart.

I’ve read it multiple times already and I know I’ll return to it again.

Dagne Forrest lives and works in a small town just west of Canada's capital. She shares her life with several other humans, an athletic labrador retriever who suffers from separation anxiety, three cats, and a small flock of chickens. Her poetry and creative nonfiction have appeared in journals in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. In 2021 she was one of 15 poets featured in Canada’s Poem in Your Pocket campaign.
